The 55 monk isn't supposed to bring any damage stuff. You bring spellbreaker and healing/ evade stuff so that way when a nightmare pops up you put on spellbreaker and wand it to death. Then the SS necro goes in with archane echo and puts ss on the enemies.

It isn't too hard if you have done this solo before it's basically the same thing except all you do is tank while the necro goes in and does the damage.

Well I suggest you going in uw and experience it yourself through trial and error. Yes videos help but would you rather play the game by someone else's point of view or would you rather play it your way. That's what I did and of course I failed but I learned more by failing than succeeding. Happy Farming!

I had my first experience of playing SS on UW duo runs last week, and they are huge fun.

Basically the monks job is to get and keep the aggro, stay alive and use spell breaker and wand the nightmares to death. The SS's job is to cast the damage causing spells and to use BR and SV at the right time.

The hardest part are the smites as they use smite hex, but echoing SV and timing it right mean that they still die fast. It took me a couple of runs to get my timing right, but even on the learning runs we still cleared the entire smite run.

Strangely enough I did my first half a dozen runs with a monk advertising himself as a "new 55" so I asked if he would consider running with a new SS so we could learn together. We actually go on well enough to add each other to our friends lists for future runs.

Not only did we get on great, we did better than when I did some more runs later in the day with monks advertsing themselves as pro or experienced.

So, my advice would be to just give it a go!

Best advice, don't rush. Take it easy and learn the run. Find what combos works well for the tanks and how the SS needs to support him. You will make back the money for entrance every run (not dying of course) and if you find yourself dying at the start, don't stress too much. In abour 3 runs you should have made atleast 3-4k profit already on just merchant fodder. The ecto and good weapons (if they ever drop) is the icing on the cake

smites can be hard, but i find its easier without echo, take SV and its factions brother AV (ancients visage), with both of these up, each smite looses 6 energy each time the 55 is hit, with 3 smites, if they all hit the 55 theyd lose 18 energy from 1 atk from each. depending on the number of smites, wait a while then cast SS, right as its recharged, recast. AV and SV wait cast SS, wait, recast, simple. 95% of the time they are dead b4 2nd SS wears off.

With Illusion at 7, it is not necessary to Echo SV.

Once Smites are grouped, hit SV, then immediately use (assuming you use all of these):
Awaken the Blood
Arcane Echo
SS 1
SS 2
Suffering
Desecrate Enchantments

Make sure your 55 does not use Bonetti's for at least the first 6-8 seconds while all the smites are grouped together and they should die in one nice flop once hit with Desecrate.

I've been doing runs as an SS for around two/three weeks now, and I've pretty much gotten as fast as I can. The skills I run are:
SS
Arcane Echo
SV
Ancestor's Visage
Reckless Haste
Blood Ritual
Awaken the Blood
Rez sig

Aatxes are so easy its unbelievable, just put on SS/echo'd SS and then reckless haste. The damage they trigger is great because they attack 25% more, but miss 50%+ more (which is also great for Bonetti's)

That's the commonly accepted build right now for "pure" smite runs where you do none of the rest of the UW. If you want to extend your ecto farming, consider dropping AV (or SV) and AtB in favor of Mantra of Resolve and Inspired Hex. Also, Blood Ritual is something that is nice to bring along if you want to humor the monk, but not strictly necessary as true UW monks will bring blessed sig to keep their energy topped off. Dropping this would let you bring another cover hex (Suffering) or Power Drain to help against the coldfires and dryders (and other fun mobs later on).
